OMICRON XI OMEGA RECOGNIZES ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presented scholarships to eight local area students during a reception held at the Catchings-Owens Community Suite in Montclair on Saturday, June 17.

“Our chapter has served as an integral part of the community and beyond for over 30 years, focusing on Montclair, Bloomfield, and West Essex,” said Althia Twieten chapters president. “Through the Omicron Xi Omega Chapter scholarship program, we have been able to distribute more than $120,000 in scholarship awards since our chapter organized in Montclair in 1984.”

The eight scholarship recipients of this year’s annual awards include seven graduating high school seniors from Montclair High School: Kristina Cassanova (Howard University), Seniah Thompson (University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth), LeAnne James (Rutgers University), Alisa Wiggins (University of Hartford), Micah Taylor (Albright College), Micah Washington (Fordham University) and David Cummings (Savannah College of Art & Design), and Bloomfield High School graduate Jessica Ramrakha (Bloomfield College).
