Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Omicron Xi Omega Chapter braved the stormy weather on Saturday, May 12, to promote the environment with an added benefit for those who recycled.
The event was held in the Hillside Square parking lot in Montclair.
Omicron Xi Omega chapter partnered with HOMECorp — Homes of Montclair Ecumenical Corporation — to bring Shred Day to the area again for the third time. The team welcomed a record number of residents and non-residents alike as they brought enough items to fill the mobile paper shredding truck to capacity.
“People were able to bring items such as old papers, tax documents and newspapers to be shred professionally,” said Althia R. Tweiten, chapter president. “Not only does the shredding go toward recycling efforts, but it also protects the identity of anyone destroying personal documents.”
“Environmental ownership is one of several program targets identified by our Sorority nationally and includes recycling and making sure we work to preserve our environment,” added Joanne Duncan, an AKA member who chaired the event. “We are pleased to continue to offer this service to the Montclair-community and surrounding area to help its citizens do their part to save the environment.”
