Omicron Xi Omega Recognizes Scholarship and Service

Omicron Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. presented scholarships to local area students during a reception held at the D. C. Rice Hall of Union Baptist Church in Montclair on Saturday, June 16.

“Our chapter has served as an integral part of the community and beyond for over 30 years, focusing on Montclair, Bloomfield, and West Essex,” said Althia Twieten chapters president. “Through the Omicron Xi Omega Chapter scholarship program, we have been able to distribute more than $120,000 in scholarship awards since our chapter organized in Montclair in 1984.”

The scholarship recipients of this year’s annual awards include the Community Service Scholarship presented to Mark Mohan, Jr (Ringling College of Art & Design); the Community Service Scholarships to Betide Mensah (Rutgers University) and Elliot Urgent (Brown Univeristy); the Willa Mae Elazer & Linda Marie Elazer-Davis Scholarhip to Christine Malcolm Lynsung (Rutgers University); the Doris Coleman Butterfly Book Scholarship to Ariana Martinez (Stevens Institute of Technology), and the Math, Science & Technology Scholarship also awarded to Christine Malcolm Lynsung.
